The University of Arizona

AZ CornoCon is a day devoted to the world’s greatest instrument…the French horn! If you are a middle school, high school, college, or enthusiast horn player — we invite you to join us on Saturday, February 21 at the University of Arizona School of Music from 12-5pm.

This year’s presenters include guest artist Dr. Rachel Hockenberry and UA Prof. Johanna Lundy. Dr. Hockenberry is an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois and a specialist in teaching young hornists. The day includes a mindfulness session for performers, a recital including several premieres, a masterclass with student performances, and a mass horn choir rehearsal/performance. Dr. Rachel Hockenberry

Dr. Rachel Hockenberry is the Associate Professor of Horn at Illinois State University. She performs frequently and has played with the Cincinnati, Columbus, Santa Barbara, Illinois, and Long Beach Symphonies, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and many others. She has performed with artists such as Billy Idol, Pete Townshend, and Jon Batiste.

Previously, Dr. Hockenberry kept a large private studio of young hornists throughout Los Angeles County who successfully auditioned into the California All State and All Southern Bands and the Colburn Youth Orchestra. She incorporates elements of El Sistema – a music education philosophy based on the belief that music is a transformative human right – into every aspect of her teaching.
