    Studio Policies:

Practice: It is understood that performance majors will practice individually 2-4 hours per day, 7 days per week. Non-performance and education majors will practice 1-2 hours per day, 7 days per week. (Ensemble rehearsals do not count as practicing)

No-scent policy: Colognes, perfumes, and scented lotions are not permitted in the horn studio. In addition to this being a standard rule in professional orchestras, the studio is a small, non-ventilated space shared by many. Be courteous of your peers — if you come to a lesson wearing cologne, perfume or scented lotion, you will be asked to leave with no makeup lesson given.

Equipment: Two specialty instruments and health and wellness equipment are available for the benefit of the studio. Care must be taken with these items to keep them in good working order for all. Please only use the instruments and equipment with clean hands. Health items can only be used during your lesson time or at a previously arranged time with the professor. The specialty instruments may be loaned to students at the professor’s discretion.

Smart devices: Cell phones, tablets, and other smart devices are not appropriate to use during your lesson, in studio class, in warm-up class, or in large ensembles. Many orchestras are now implementing policies banning the use of smart devices during rehearsals. If you need to make an emergency call, you may notify the professor in advance and step outside to do so.

Be professional: Be on time, warmed up and ready to go for your lesson and studio class. If students are not prepared for their lesson, they may be dismissed early. Be supportive and respectful of your peers and fellow studio members at all times.
